Fast and Free Shipping in The U.SThe tank valve has a checking feature which will kick in if there is too much propane flowing at start up time. This is a safety feature built into the valve. Basically you just need to slightly open the gas tank valve. In addition, make sure that when you start up the appliance that you just open up the gas flow on the appliance very slightly before igniting it, and if applicable to only light up one burner at a time. Then after the appliance has lit up, you can turn the gas valve all the way up.
All Flame King cylinders are vacuum purged and ready to fill.
If your tank has a sticker on it that says it needs to be purged, it may be there for legal purposes but does not mean that the tank is not purged. Our tanks now have stickers stating that they are pre-puged.
Because our tanks are vapor draw, they cannot be mounted upside down.
In fact it is highly flammable and can cause a fire if the liquid comes out instead of vapor (this does not apply to the forklift tank).
It seems that the propane filler is filling the tanks until the OPD Valve shuts off. That is an illegal way of filling propane. The OPD is there only as a secondary measure and the cylinders are ONLY allowed to be filled either by weight or until the dip tube / bleeder screw starts spitting. The OPD function would tell the filler when to stop but they would still be able to bypass that by putting in more propane (a common mistake). Take your car for example, when filling it with gas the pump will shut off when it's time to stop but you could still technically bypass that and put in a bit more.
The tank should be in a well ventilated covered area such as a patio, shed or garage. Propane tanks should NEVER be stored indoors.
For safety purposes, tanks only fill to about 80%. This allows for any expansion of gas that may occur due to temperature changes.
There is a magnet at the end of the OPD valve inside the tank. This corresponds with a magnet located on the back of the gauge itself. As the valve goes up and down indicating the level of propane, the magnetic field also moves the needle up and down to show the levels on the gauge.
All of our tanks (aside for Forklift and Horizontal tanks) must be transported in the upright vertical position in accordance with government and safety regulations.
Rest assured, all Flame King propane tanks are vacuum purged, empty and ready to be filled.
DOT certified tanks require re-certification after 12 years from the date of manufacture.
ASME certified tanks never need to be re-certified.
If your tank is 40lbs or less then you have an OPD style valve and you will not lose the purge as it is designed to release propane ONLY when it is connected to a hose or appliance. The larger POL style valves (usually found on the 60 & 100 lb tanks) are not designed that way so if you left the valve open then you would have to have the tank purged again before filling.
A soapy water test should be performed in order to establish where the propane is leaking from. See link below on how to perform the test.

If the leaking is from the back of the valve, that would imply that it was overfilled. The pressure relief valve is an added safety feature built into the tank in case of overfilling. In that case it would vent the excess propane because of the pressure buildup. You should have the propane company that filled it bleed some of it out or wait for it to stop venting before using it.
The EZ Refill Adapter is designed to be used ONLY with a standard 20 lb tank. Other size tanks will not be secured in a sturdy way and can be a safety hazard.
The Flame King Refill Adapter is designed to refill only our green 1 pound, half pound and 4 oz cylinders and are not designed for any other tanks. Any larger tanks must be filled by a licensed refill station.
There is a floaty connected to the valve on the inside of the tank with a magnet attached to it, which will make the dial on the outside of the tank react to the propane level on the inside. Depending on the level of propane that is how the reader will react and show you the current propane level.
Our tanks are vacuum purged which means the oxygen is sucked out in order to allow for more room for the propane to be filled in. The sound you’re hearing is oxygen making its way back into the tank. If you didn’t have it open for too long then you’re still fine. If it was open for a while then you would have to have the propane filler vacuum purge it before filling.
A healthy amount of WD40 around the threading and some light hammer tapping should loosen that up.
The tank's manufacture date will be stamped on either the collar or the foot of the tank. It will appear as the month, an uppercase A and then the year. For example: 01 A 24.

Sounds like a loose/damaged o-ring at the bottom of the valve. You would need a pair of tweezers in order to pry out the teal-colored sleeve above the black o-ring, remove the o-ring as well and then you could just push in the replacement easily. See video below.

The plastic guide is designed to discourage people from using our product dangerously, like using it to refill disposable bottles. The plastic guide on the refill adapter has no real function other than that and will still work fine without it.
While we recommend purchasing our at home Refill Kit, as that is the easiest way to fill your tanks, you can also see if there is a retailer near you that fills our refillable 1 lb cylinders by clicking the link below. We recommend you give them a call before making the trip to confirm.
At empty it should be about 1.6 lbs and between 2.3 - 2.5 lb when filled to 80% max fill.

It is quite normal for that sound to occur in some tanks as sometimes there can be a small amount of metal shavings left behind after it was produced. It is still 100% safe to use as usual.
We recommend gently putting the tank on its side on a soft area such as a carpet or grass, etc. and roll it around for a minute or two. Also hold the tank right side up, invert it, right side up, invert it etc. do that a few times a bit vigorously. It is likely that the fill valve floaty on the inside may have gotten locked which can happen in transit or from a fall and this would unlock it and allow for the propane to enter and exit the valve correctly.
In general when filling a tank for the first time, the following procedure should be followed: Pump turned on when the valve is still closed, then open the bleeder screw and slowly open the valve handle. If that doesn't work then you can show this short troubleshoot video to the propane filler.
Please ensure that the filler tries the part mentioned in the video regarding releasing the pressure from the tank via the screwdriver method at 1:35 in the video. This is a very common issue where a filler may pump the gas in too quickly which would lock the OPD and the screwdriver method will usually unlock that.
If your tank says 15lb on the label, it is usually because that is how much most places will fill it at max capacity.
Most likely your tank is a standard 20lb tank
Try first turning it off then back on, if that doesn't work then be sure your phone's software is up to date, delete the app and redownload.
Try giving it a really light flow of propane (like a whisper) for a few seconds, ignite it and then raise to desired flame. The spark is quite small so it's quite easy to overwhelm it with too much propane.
We say to not go below 20 lb because of the high BTU output which would drain you pretty quick. It will still work just fine with the tanks smaller than 20 lb (5lb and 10lb).
The torch hose is designed for the INSIDE of the OPD valve and is compatible with the valve found on a 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 60 and 100 lb cylinder. Normally it would be "righty tighty lefty loosey" but in this case it's the exact opposite. You need to turn it counter clockwise for it to tighten.

These units are not compatible to be used with 1 lb tanks. It’s designed to be used with an RV’s inner LP system or at the very least a standard BBQ Tank (3, 5 ,10, 20, 30 or 40 lb tank).
The Cooktop doesn't include the mounting hardware as there are multiple types of counters that this unit can be mounted to which would require different screw types and drill bits etc.
We do not recommend changing any factory set functions on the unit as it can compromise its integrity and void the warranty.
To reset the regulator, disconnect then reconnect all hoses. Then open the tank valves very slowly as the rush of propane may make the window read incorrectly.
It indicates the pressure from the tank that it's drawing propane from is lower than usual because there's not much propane left in the tank. As you continue to use the regulator with the same tank, the indicator will turn completely red until you switch to a full cylinder.
Please ensure that your regulator is mounted above or level with the tank valves as shown below to ensure the propane flows correctly.
